The City of Little Rock is taking steps to ensure fairness and equity in its contracting processes by launching a comprehensive disparity study. Commissioned by the city, BBC Research & Consulting will conduct a thorough assessment to identify any barriers faced by small businesses, veteran-owned businesses, disabled-owned businesses, minority-owned businesses, and woman-owned businesses when competing for city contracts.

This study signals the city’s commitment to fostering an inclusive business environment where all qualified businesses have equal opportunities. By examining existing contracting processes and gathering data on the experiences of diverse businesses, the study aims to identify any disparities or obstacles that may hinder their participation.

To ensure a comprehensive and inclusive approach, the city is actively seeking input from the business community. Stakeholder engagement sessions, both virtual and in-person, are being held to gather feedback and insights from those directly involved in city contracting. These sessions provide a platform for businesses to share their experiences, ask questions, and contribute to shaping the city’s future procurement policies.

The first virtual public meeting was held on September 24th, allowing businesses to learn more about the study and its objectives. Those who were unable to attend can still submit written comments to LittleRockDisparityStudy@bbcresearch.com.

The study’s findings will play a crucial role in informing policy changes and program adjustments to promote greater equity and inclusion in Little Rock’s contracting processes. By identifying and addressing any existing disparities, the city aims to create a level playing field for all businesses, encouraging economic growth and promoting a more vibrant and diverse business community.
