The Kansas Department of Commerce is increasing its efforts to support small businesses and entrepreneurs across the state by launching new tools for businesses and expanding existing resources.

The agency reported in June that they created the Kansas Small Business Office, designed to provide a central site for all small businesses, from initial small business guidance access to funding and further technical assistance at all phases of business.

The office also assists with startup planning, scaling, and connections to local economic development and other types of programs. According to the Department of Commerce, this new office is part of an initiative to support entrepreneurs and develop resilient local economies.

The agency also launched an online site for small business resources, aimed at consolidating information for small businesses. As WIBW reports, the platform will provide better and easier navigation for businesses to understand permitting, licensing, procurement, and other features.

The initiatives build on the state's ongoing support for diverse businesses. As previously reported by Contractor News, Governor Laura Kelly recently recognized minority- and women-owned businesses (M/WBEs) for their roles in the Kansas economy

Officials say the new office and digital hub will also serve as a centralized place for all businesses to connect with mentorship, workforce assistance, and federal program assistance. The Department of Commerce has noted that future updates will add interactive elements and localized expertise for rural entrepreneurs and veteran-owned businesses.

With these recent initiatives, Kansas continues to be a leading advocate for small and diverse business growth in the Midwest.
