As Ohio gears up for a new round of infrastructure projects, the Department of Transportation (ODOT) is carefully reviewing certifications for Disadvantaged and Small Business Enterprises.
The transportation department urges Unified Certification Program-certified businesses to audit their ownership structures. It also records to ensure compliance with DBE regulations. At the same time, the government is assessing its smaller business enterprises.
Officials say the move is aimed at improving program integrity and guaranteeing contractual chances go to businesses that meet qualifying requirements.
Although no immediate policy changes have been announced, ODOT recommends that firms evaluate their certification status ahead of future project bids.
The department started by maintaining correct certifications and supporting the state’s public contracting processes. This endeavor draws on Ohio’s larger efforts to increase access for minority contractors, such as the creation of its Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) program to boost participation among businesses owned by women.
As part of these initiatives, the department is committed to increasing outreach and support for minority-based companies, keeping them informed about forthcoming changes and opportunities.
Firms certified under the DBE or SBE programs are asked to keep track of impending changes and submit relevant documents as ODOT completes its evaluation process later this year.
