STO Building Group is a renowned engineering and construction management corporation that has been in operation since 1971. The company is operational across the USA, Canada, the UK, and Ireland.

In recent times, STO group and its subsidiaries have been winning major government funded construction contracts in the US.

Wiregrass Ranch Sports Campus Construction, Pasco County

One example is Ajax Building Company, a part of the STO Building Group Inc., which has been undertaking the Wiregrass Ranch Sports Campus construction project in Wesley Chapel, Florida.

The new facility includes a 100,000 sq. ft. PEMB indoor sports arena with a 230-foot clear span and 70,000 square feet of wood flooring for volleyball, basketball, dance, cheerleading, and other indoor sports. The 70,000 sq. ft. hardwood floor area can hold eight full-size basketball courts that can be converted into sixteen volleyball courts.

A multipurpose space, 360-degree viewing mezzanine, fitness facility, team meeting and coach's area, sports medical office, food and beverage section, event lawn (equal to two official soccer fields), maintenance facilities, and parking lots are also available.

This project also includes 80 acres of substantial civil improvements to vacant land, 12 retention ponds, and water, storm, sewer, and reclaim infrastructure for the project's main building and future expansion.

New Public Safety Campus, St. Petersburg Florida

The police department of St. Petersburg, Florida, engaged Ajax Building Company to manage the construction of its new headquarters at 1301 1st Avenue. Ajax will oversee and help with all pre-construction services.

The 167,000 sq. ft. facility within the three-story Administrative Property Evidence building is designed to resist winds up to 195 miles per hour. Other things to be included are:

  • A central energy plant.
  • A secure border control system.
  • On-site parking.
  • A four-level parking structure.

The St. Petersburg Police Training Facility/Firing Range will cost $5.31 million, and the St. Petersburg Police Headquarters will cost $61 million. Both projects' pre-construction services resulted in a Guaranteed Maximum Price bid well within the city's construction budget.

Public Safety Complex, Leon County

Ajax Building Company collaborated with Leon County and the city of Tallahassee to plan and construct a multi-use Public Safety Complex. Nearly 150 workers can be accommodated in the 94,660 sq. ft. building during business hours and 400 people in the event of an evacuation.

The main facility can withstand an F4 Tornado with 200+ MPH winds, and the Logistics building can withstand a Category 3 hurricane.

Some of the important characteristics of this public safety complex include the following:

  1. The windows are constructed of hurricane-resistant glass with aluminum frames.
  2. The structure has passed the FEMA 361 criteria for tornado shelters and the Department of defense's anti-terrorism standards.
  3. It includes the N+1 backup power system with three diesel generator sets and paralleling switchgear, and all of these are made to be redundant and reliable.

Hudson Fire Station, Hudson Town, NH

A 7,800 sq. ft. building contract is handed over to Structure Tone, a division of STO Building Group, and Harriman Associates in collaboration with the town of Hudson and New Hampshire.

Some of the main attributes of the Hudson Fire Station include the following:

  1. The concrete slab's weight can support four fire vehicles and their water tanks.
  2. The HVAC system's unique ventilation configuration allows firefighters to perform regular inspections and testing without opening the garage doors.
  3. Mechanical rooms are home to enormous air compressors that always keep fire engines ready.

Alachua County Equestrian Center, Newberry, Florida

The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Equestrian Center is a result of the collaboration between the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners and the University of Florida Institute of Food & Agricultural Sciences.

People can attend various classes, activities, and demonstrations at the new auditorium. The auditorium, with a capacity of 400 people, may also be separated into three different conference rooms and has a teaching kitchen. Construction of new stormwater ponds, landscaping, new pole-barn structures over existing wash-down areas with related new underground utilities, and relocation of PEMB are part of the site work and utility work on the current 37-acre site and the new adjacent five-acre site.

Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, Kissimmee, Florida

Ajax was chosen, along with AE partner RS&H, to upgrade the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Animal Disease and Diagnostic Laboratory in Central Florida.

Ajax built a new office/laboratory facility close to the current laboratory complex. The new facility, connected to the current structure via covered walkways, features several laboratory spaces. In addition, the project included the construction of additional utilities, parking, and stormwater systems. The facility was also planned with future expansion for emergency vehicle storage in mind.

Department of Public Safety Service Building & Headquarters Upgrades, Augusta, GA

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (GDPS) required a new Service Building to accommodate their present and future programmatic demands. GDPS intended to construct a two-story structural steel frame building adjacent to the current structure. When finished, the new building will include:

  • An employee lounge area.
  • Billeting space.
  • A machine shop.
  • A garage area for outfitting trooper's vehicles.
  • Secure storage for weapons and ammunition.
  • A computer workshop.
  • A 3,500lb freight elevator.
  • General storage and support areas.

The scope of work comprised the design and construction of a new 33,000 sq. ft. facility and roughly 42,000 sq. ft. of the paved area around the new structure.

City of Venice Public Safety Facility, Venice, Florida

The current city of Venice police station was found to be inadequate to meet the demands of modern administrative work. Using the CM at-risk delivery model, Ajax/Tandem Construction completed the new City of Venice Police Safety Facility (PSF) on East Venice Avenue. It is a one-story, 31,421-square-foot structure made of thick concrete tilt-wall panels.

The roofing assembly comprises a composite metal deck with a 6-inch concrete slab and an SBS-modified bituminous roofing system that meets Level E impact criteria. Its structural parts were designed and built to withstand winds up to 220 mph. Entrance points include bullet-resistant walls and windows.

The new Venice PSF incorporates architectural components that meet Venetian Gateway criteria for exterior colors, archways, metal tile roofs, precast parts, and fenestrations.

The new facility includes community meeting rooms, officer training facilities, workout space, forensic evidence processing, digital evidence processing, evidence storage, record storage space, media briefing rooms, etc.

STO Building Group and its subsidiaries continue to expand their portfolio across the country.
