Before awarding contracts, WVDOT considers a number of factors like whether the bid is above or below the department’s Engineer’s Estimate. “Most projects are reviewed, analyzed, and awarded within a week of the bid letting, but the process can take longer,” WVDOT said. The letting process began on Tuesday.

Included in the list of projects is a 3,300-foot-long bridge spanning the Cheat River, a part of a four-lane upgrade to Appalachian Corridor H, which encompasses Interstate 79 near Weston, “across some of West Virginia’s most rugged terrain,” to Interstate 81 in Strasburg, Virginia. The goal of the project is to induce economic development in the area.
Funds for the 20 projects will be covered by the governor, Jim Justice’s, Roads to Prosperity program.
