Washington state's King County Executive Dow Constantine has announced the implementation of a Fast Track Small Contractor and Supplier program.

Meanwhile, the Washington State Office of Minority and Women’s Business enterprise (OMWBE) has successfully received approval of new legislation that will make King County’s Small Contractor and Supplier (SCS) certification reciprocal with the state’s Minority and Women-owned businesses (M/WBE).

Originally, the SCS's standard size was set to 50 percent of the federal government's Small Business Administration (SBA) standard. With the changes King County is implementing, both SBA and OMWBE size standards are set to have a standard of 100 percent of the SBA standard.

King County has successfully implemented the SCS program and it has surpassed participation goals since 2016. Executive Constantine has expressed excitement that King County is heading toward creating strong economic leverage for M/WBEs.
