Fort Worth Surpasses SBE Contracting Goal

Fort Worth awarded small businesses $77 million across 83 city contracts, achieving 43% participation and surpassing its 30% goal.

A Small Business Development Program (SBDP) was launched by the City of Forth Worth within the Economic Development Department. It was setup to expand business opportunities for local entreprenuers and small business owners.

SBDP was designed to ensure economic growth by addressing the challenges faced by small businesses. The program empowers these local businesses with the tools they require for succeeding. 

With targeted initiatives, Fort Worth’s small business program strengthens the local ecosystem by fostering competition and collaboration among peers. SBDP aims to increase access to resources, foster innovation, and ensure long-term sustainability across local workforce community in the city.

The City Council received an update on the SBDP, which took effect September 1st 2025. As per the new updates, eligible businesses receive a 5% bid preference on contracts between $3,000 and $100,000. 

The City administration also sets aside 30% small business utilization targets for all bids exceeding $100,000.

In a report that examined data through June 30, 2026, it stated that the City achieved 43% small business participation, exceeding the 30% goal. Small businesses were awarded $77,030,348 across 83 City contracts.
