In partnership with the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), the New York City Department of Small Business Services (SBS) is formally including LGBT-owned businesses (LGBTBEs) in New York City procurement. The SBS will be recognizing the NGLCC’s list of Chamber-certified LGBTBEs to determine LGBTBE status.

The partnership between the NGLCC will allow SBS to provide LGBT-owned businesses with various initiatives that are already offered to other certified businesses, such as education, capacity-building and supportive initiatives. SBS recognition will also create an easier opportunity for LGBTBEs to become certified as minority- and women-owned business enterprises (MWBEs).

NGLCC Co-Founder & President Justin Nelson is quoted as saying: “Thanks to the leadership of NGLCC, Mayor Bill de Blasio and the NYC Department of Small Business Services-- especially Commissioner Jonnel Doris and Deputy Commissioner Dynishal Gross-- LGBT entrepreneurs in New York City will now have the opportunity to create jobs and develop innovations that benefit all who live there.”
