With an increasing number of national and local programs assisting veteran business owners, disability firms are finding it easier to secure funding, mentorship, and government contracts. Several groups and websites have developed tools for disabled veterans to assist them in starting and expanding their businesses.
According to Bankrate, numerous grant schemes can be accessed through public and private sources. These include service-specific programs, such as those operated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Veteran Business Outreach Centers supported by the SBA, which provide both business training and access to capital.
Additionally, websites such as Yelp for Business have developed resource centers specifically for veterans. The centers include online tools, advertising assistance, and inspirational stories about businesses around the nation owned by successful veterans.
At both the state and city levels, there are also attempts to encourage more veterans to participate. According to a Contractor News report, most state and municipal governments still do not have clear purchasing targets for handicapped veterans. This shows exactly how important each of these unique, non-profit initiatives is.
