During the most recent city council meeting, the SDVOB Initiative was announced for the City of Frederick. The SDVOB Initiative has new goals for the purchasing of goods and services from service-disabled veteran-owned businesses and some defined reporting processes to keep track.
The city plans to help get veteran entrepreneurs certified by providing resources to support them in their efforts to get certified, to ensure many businesses can benefit from the expanded initiative.
This project follows Frederick's earlier mission to expand the goals of women-owned and minority-owned businesses and aids the development of more inclusive contracting mechanisms that reflect the leading practices in the field regionally.
The terrific new SDVOB goals also align with local veteran service organizations and their initiatives to make veterans more economically and socially independent. For example, groups like the Frederick County Veterans Advisory Council provide advocacy, support within the community, and veteran certification and benefits.
Collaboration with these organizations will strengthen SDVOB contracting goals and allow eligible veterans to use their business resources and affiliates to connect them in business and mentorship experiences.
Frederick officials indicated that SDVOB participation goals would assist in recognizing service to veterans while returning jobs, innovation, and economic development back to the local community.
