LGBT-owned business enterprises (LGBTBEs) are set to be added to the Travis County Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) program.

The City of Austin’s LGBTQ+ Quality of Life Commission has carried out a study on the lack of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender owned businesses in city contracting and procurement.

Following a recent presentation of the report, the Travis County Commissioners Court has approved measures including authorizing the Travis County Purchasing Office to include LGBTBEs in the HUB program.

Travis County will soon be conducting its own disparity study on HUB contracting, aiming to find which types of business are underutilized relative to their availability in County procurement, with results expected in 2022.

If the findings reveal a disparity in contracting and utilization of LGBTBEs, even more efforts will be made to include LGBTBEs in the County’s HUB program.
