The Illinois Tollway board of directors has approved three construction and professional engineering service contracts, totaling more than $330 million. The contracts will utilize certified disadvantaged, minority- and women-owned enterprises (DBE/MBE/WBE).
In total over $600 million in contracts have been awarded by the Tollway Board in 2021. The contracts have been the latest in the Tollway’s 15-year Move Illinois Program, which began in 2012.
Since 2012, over $9.2 billion has been invested in the project and of that $2.4 billion has been awarded to small, diverse and veteran-owned businesses over the years.
Currently, the Illinois Tollway is working on two of the largest projects the agency has ever had. Of all of the contracts awarded to subcontractors, 27 of them are with certified disadvantaged, minority- and women-owned businesses (DBE/MBE/WBE).
The contracts include over $200 million to Walsh Construction Company for earthwork and construction of a new Union Pacific Railroad bridge over the Canadian Pacific Railway Bensenville Yard as part of the I-490 Tollway Project.
A second largest contract of $4 million was also awarded to Walsh Construction Company for the removal of the Hinsdale Oasis pavilion and bridge. A number of other companies are also taking part, such OMEGA, a Chicago based engineering company.
