The City of Arlington has adopted a "MWBE (Minority Woman Business Enterprise) Program" and has established an Office of Business Diversity in hopes to increase participation with minority and women-owned businesses.

In order to reduce race- and gender- based barriers, the City’s Office of Business Diversity has increased the goal for minority and local businesses from 25 percent to 30 percent. A recent Availability and Disparity Study revealed that only a small group of M/WBE firms are winning city contracts. The adopted M/WBE Program will help steer firms in the right direction so that they can better pursue City Projects as prime contractors.

Contract specific goals are also being implemented with specific goals that will be aimed to include M/WBEs. Contractors will be required to make good faith efforts in order to reach out to available M/WBEs. In addition to required good faith efforts, the Office of Business Diversity will be closely monitoring and reviewing bid proposals in effort to reduce existing barriers and ultimately increase M/WBE participation.
