The City of Frederick recently completed a disparity study leading to recommendations for the city to focus on long-term and short-term goals to increase contracting opportunities for Minority-owned (MBEs) and Women-owned businesses (WBEs).

In order to require M/WBE participation, the City of Frederick was required to conduct the disparity study. In March the findings were presented and showed that M/WBEs did not receive equal opportunity to participate and win city contracts. It is also recommended that one full-time employee oversee compliance in regards to M/WBEs.

In addition to one full-time employee, the city will also work towards establishing a committee that will focus on working towards meeting the city’s M/WBE goals.

Creating a successful program will be vital to the success of the city's goal of maintaining an inclusive procurement process. Firms that sign contracts with the city will be required to meet goals to include M/WBE in their good faith efforts.
